Set a timer on a bad mood
Every notice how long a bad mood can last?
Climbing out of a bad mood can be a lot of work, it’s much easier to stay cranky. BUT, if you want to feel better faster, you have to put in a little work.
So allow yourself a few minutes of the bad and then work your way up. How?
𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴. Research has proven that when we are in a bad mood, we look for things to keep us there. 𝘍𝘭𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘵. Think of 3 things you are grateful for, even if they are basic, and keep going with more.
𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺. As Elle Woods says, “Endorphins make people happy and happy people don’t kill their husbands.” We get endorphins through exercise. You don’t have to go crazy, even simple movements such as a brisk walk, going up and down the stairs, or simple stretching can help the shift.
𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤. But not the sad songs that remind you of your ex or an embarrassing high school experience. Songs you love to belt out and sing - and 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 them!
𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦 your happy place. Call upon your favorite memories. Imagine scenarios differently where you were able to say what you really wanted.
𝘚𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦. Yes, even though you don’t feel like it. Smiling tricks the brain into thinking you’re 𝐧𝐨𝐭 in a bad mood.
If all else fails, there is little a nap can’t fix.
